MacBook Air m1 Vs MacBook Pro m1 vs Mac Mini m1

At the Apple November 10th event, the tech giant launched three new Mac models based on the company’s new in-house ARM-based Silicon processors called Apple M1. The three MacBook models that Apple announced are MacBook Pro 13-inch, MacBook Air, and Mac Mini.

MacBook Air is having two variants, from which one is of 512GB storage with Apple M1 with 8-Core CPU and 8-Core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine. And the other is of 256GB Storage with an M1 chip with an 8‑core CPU, 7‑core GPU, and 16‑core Neural Engine.

The new in-house chipset on the new MacBook Air is said to be increasing the CPU performance by up to 3.5x when compared to the previous iteration. The eight-core GPU on the M1 claims to deliver 5x faster GPU performance, which is huge for the MacBook Air. This would make graphics-intensive games run smoother.

When it comes to design, the MacBook Air still has the slim-wedge design featuring a 13-inches IPS Retina Display with a P3 color gamut. There’s no fan under the hood on the new MacBook Air, which makes the Silent Design. The M1 chips also help in achieving up to 18 hours of video playback when it comes to battery backup on the new MacBook Air.

Both the devices have 8GB of RAM and a 13-inch display, just like MacBook Pro. It will come with Magic Keyboard, Touch ID, Force Touch trackpad, and 4 USB ports. The price of MacBook Air starts at $999 for the 256GB variant and $1,249 for the 512GB model. There are three color options available Silver, Space Grey, and Gold.

MacBook Pro will have a display of 13-inch, and the starting price of 256GB storage is $1,299. And for the 512GB Storage, the price is $1,499. The price of the MacBook Pro is the same as MacBook Pro’s previous models. Both versions have 8GB of unified memory. The storage can be increased to 16GB RAM and up to 2TB.

The MacBook Pro also features the same 13-inch Retina Display as before, complete with 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution and 500 nits of brightness. You also get True Tone, which automatically adjusts the colors on the screen based on ambient lighting.

The new MacBook Pro offers two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports that can handle charging, DisplayPort output, and Thunderbolt 3 output. The ports also support the older USB 3.1 standard. There's a headphone jack onboard as well.

The new 13-inch MacBook Pro includes studio-quality mics for clear recordings and calls. Apple claims that the latest camera ISP in the M1 chip enables sharper images and more detail in shadows and highlights on video calls. The new MacBook Pro also delivers high-level security with the Secure Enclave in M1 and Touch ID.

The new Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch with Apple's M1 chip could very well be the longest-lasting MacBook ever. In fact, Apple rates this laptop for up to 17 hours of web surfing and a whopping 20 hours of video playback.

Mac Mini is also available in two variants 256GB and 512GB. The price in India is $699 and $899 respectively.
All the new Macs have got 8GB RAM by default, and it can be expanded up to 16GB if you pay $200 extra when you purchase.

The new Mac Mini is said to offer up to 3X faster CPU performance when compared to the previous models. The company also claims that the Mac Mini can offer up to 6X better graphics performance and 15X faster machine learning.

Other Mac mini features include Wi-Fi 6 for faster wireless performance and the Secure Enclave in M1 for best-in-class security.

The M1 ‌Mac mini‌ has two Thunderbolt and USB 4 ports, while the Intel ‌Mac mini‌ has four Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3 ports. So, if you need more ports the Intel ‌Mac mini‌ is better, but if you need to connect USB 4 devices at maximum speeds, you will need the M1 ‌Mac mini‌.
The M1 ‌Mac mini‌ comes in Silver, while the Intel ‌Mac mini‌ comes in Space Gray. There are no other color options for either machine.

Bottom Line

So which M1 Mac should you buy?

  1. If you are a casual user then go for the MacBook Air. For the majority of the people, MacBook Air will deliver the performance they need.
  2. But if you want to do some really processor-intensive work on your computer then you should go for the MacBook Pro 13 inch otherwise you don't have to spend an extra $300.
  3. And if you want the most inexpensive way to experience the M1 chip then you should go for the Mac Mini ( just remember that you have to buy a monitor, keyboard, mouse etc which will bring the price almost equal to MacBook Air).
